Default New owner and new radio

Hello folks,

I recently purchased a 2004 Lariat F150. Awesome truck and I love it, I don't like the radio in it though. It has the stock radio in it, but it has a cassette player. I don't like the way it looks and want to replace it. The problem is, I think that aftermarket decks look tacky and you lose the functionality of the steering wheel controls, correct?

I read on here that I could could replace the stock radio with a newer stock radio from 2004-2008 and it would still work. A big advantage of the newer radio would be a AUX jack for my iPhone as well. I've been looking on the internet and found a couple different places I can get a newer radio and keep that stock look I like. The questions I have are, the 2004 F150 is it a "Double Din" or "Single Din"? Does anyone have any experience with this particular unit or installing it? I saw some older reviews of something similar, but not that exact one.

Thanks for the help folks!

I know it's a double din. My truck didn't have the steering wheel controls so I didn't have to worry about that. I've got a pioneer AVH-8400BT. I love the Bluetooth capability with the USB port. Should be a direct plug in going from stock to stock in the same year range.

I have a 2004 lariat with a stock audiophile 6 disc CD player with iPod/iphone cable attached that will retain your steering wheel controls - i will be looking to sell very soon if you are interested.

I have the same, and love it. It's a double din radio. Like said above, it's a direct plug. I picked mine up on amazon when it first came out. You can also order the iPhone/iPod cord for full functionality.

I've seen audiophile mentioned a couple times, but what is it actually?

Is there any way to retain the steering wheel controls with an aftermarket deck?

You can retain the steering wheel controls by installing an adapter. http://www.crutchfield.com/ISEO-rgbt...-Adapters.html

Audiophile is upgraded speakers, 6 disc CD player and a subwoofer mounted under rear seat.

And yes you can maintain SWCs via aftermarket adapter cable. There about $50 on eBay or crutch field.

What do you guys know about the Pioneer AppRadio? I've read some mixed reviews on it. Most of the gripes that people have don't seem like very big problems to me. I like it because it looks sleek.

I've been reading lots of reviews and seen some pretty awesome duff from the appradio 2. It looks sleek and simplistic. Only thing I wish was different is the Bluetooth media streaming. Does anyone know how long the cable that comes with the radio is? And is it possible to run it up my center console and have it come out of my storage/armrest or is there a better place to put it? All the radios I've seen have all had some positives and some negatives, it's a tough decision to make!

On my pioneer (granted its a different model) the audio shop said without buying a USB extension cord that it wouldn't reach the center console. So mine is in the glovebox
