Hey, nice find. I have a 2004 Xlt model with 268K on odometer. I have the 5.4 L, Spark plugs are the big issue. Drive shaft went out on mine last year...other than that I couldn’t have asked for a better truck.

Well I thought I would provide an update on my 2004 SuperCrewCab 5.4L.

It has been a very bad day. The Speedometer went out so I took it to the shop. I also had a engine code.

Here is what they are telling me....

1 - speedo cluster needs to be replaced. About $600-$800 parts and labor
2 - Cam positioning code was on but
cam positioning sensor is fine
PCM is shot. Unfortunately they are no longer available new and according to the shop mine is "special" and he hasn't been able to find one used.
IF he does find one I will have to have Roush re-program it before it can be used in the truck.

....the used car warranty of course (my wife bought the policy for me) won't cover anything because it has a super charger that wasn't factory installed.

I am thinking I might be parting this thing out... ;^(

The cluster is a reasonably easy DIY task. Just source a matching one from an 04'-08' truck from a wrecker or Pick n Pull. Ideally one with a similar mileage reading.

If it was me, I'd get a second opinion on the PCM.

Are you able to provide the actual code that was pulled? P0XXX format.

did the warranty company not know about the supercharger???...seems that since you bought it this way they should cover repairs unless they weren't told/didn't know about the aftermarket parts...doesn't the warranty cover parts not associated with the supercharger???...does the warranty company believe the supercharger caused the instrument cluster and PCM to die???...sounds like someone took your money but aren't covering much (of course this may all be stated in your contract...I'd check it to see what holes the warranty company are falling through to not cover your vehicle...

Good luck,

Bill

Why not sell the SC and go back to stock?

So I was kind of freaking out about the news from the shop... The deal on the Used Car Warranty is that when I bought the truck the guy said it was a factory install. I wasn't smart enough to know there weren't any of those. The only factory SC was Whipple? So my wife bought the policy and I called them to ask and they said if it is a factory option then it will be covered. The guy as the shop is a Ford guy and he said it is aftermarket install but was done very well. He also said if I call them without filing a claim I can probably get a refund of premiums.

So on the PCM... the guy at the shop says re-manufactured PCMs are a really bad bet. Is that true?

I sent an email to Roush to get their input about programming a replacement PCM.

Stay tuned for new developments. Does anyone have a recommendation for a great Ford truck mechanic in Colorado Springs, CO?

Thanks

OK latest update. After a week the shop says they can't find a new or used PCM and they won't install a re-manufactured one. What exactly do I need to know from my old PCM to find a new one?
I could really use some help. There must be some in wrecking yards unless they are VERY model/VIN specific.

I heard back from Roush and they sent me a contact that can program it if I can find one.

I am in the uk and i found places in th USA that sell the motors for the speedo to fix that. Why is the pcm faulty? How does he know the sensor is fine. These trucks have alot of problems with cam chain pulleys, chain tensioners seals blowing out and top end oil pressure. Mine has only done 50k and the seals on my chain tensioners went so i did a complete timing job with motorcraft parts and melling oil pump.

Stadium Auto Parts ~ 62 miles from you in Denver/Westminster. 1-800-825-8733

They have at least seven ECM's out of 2004 F150s for around $70.
