Default new to me 2004 f150 Lariat SCrew 5.4 v8

We had a hail storm that totaled my 2000 Tundra. It had 240,000 miles on it but still ran pretty well. They gave me almost $6k for it, I looked at a LOT of used trucks under $10k. Mostly pretty beat up and/or lots of miles. 3 weeks ago I bought a 2004 F150 Lariat Super Crew 5.4 liter Turbo v8 with all the bells and whistles with 143,000 miles for $8,001 out the door. I wanted something more basic but with my budget I bought the what appeared to be the best truck I saw. So for $2,000 out of pocket I got a truck 4 years and almost 100,000 miles newer (but not a Toyota).

And after reading this site I am a pretty nervous. My first Ford since my 63 Fair lane in the 1970s and I have never had a vehicle with power everything, let alone a turbo charger. Lots of very expensive things to go wrong. The service records show that the spark plugs have been changed at least once by the dealer.

But I am hopeful. I work from home so I put maybe 5,000 miles a year on my vehicle. We will see.... Already having some buyers remorse although it seems like a really nice truck.

5.4 didn't come turbocharged stock, so it could introduce a whole new can of worms. Can you post pics of the truck and turbo setup?

As an owner of a F150 with the 4.6, I can't speak for the 5.4 and all of its issues. But, this community here has plenty of knowledgeable and experienced people who would be more than willing to offer you insight and advice on the 5.4. You're in good hands!

Thanks for the support guys. It is actually a Super Charger not a Turbo Charger. The sales guy said "Yes Sir that is a factory Turbo Charger right there!" I didn't really think about the difference. DUH... Exhaust gas driven vs Belt Driven. I don't suppose any 5.4 came with Super Chargers from the factory?

That Roush supercharger is an aftermarket install. If done well, that's a nice upgrade.

I'm intrigued. Why put a supercharger on a gas engine? Yes, they pump more air into the cylinder like a turbocharger but unlike a turbo which runs off exhaust gas waste heat, a supercharger is a parasitic load and takes power away from the engine. It also needs a high RPM to work. It's like an answer to a question no one asked.

So, FlatTop, what kind of mileage you getting with that rig?

Roots-style superchargers like the Roush deliver gains at lower rpm than centrifugal units. The power gain far surpasses the parasitic power loss once in boost.

I have only had it a few weeks but around town I am getting 10-12 mpg. Been very gentle with her so far until we get to know each other. It looks like a pretty clean install. The only obvious thing I can see is where the insulation on bottom of the hood was modified to accommodate the Roush air cleaner.
