Dealership says I need new COP Spark Plug Boots......B.S. or Real?
Dealership quoted me at $550+ to replace my plugs and the boots connecting the COP to the plug. I found the thread detailing how to change the plugs so Im going to tackle that this weekend. Do I really need to replace the boots too?
They told me the boots could be causing the truck to run rough and miss.....sounds like B.S. to me but I thought I would ask you guys before I drop $75 on new boots.
Thanks!

Well with my truck, I'm having a miss underload and rough idle as well and it could be many things but the COP is deffinitly a reason that could be cause the miss fire. if you know what cylder you're missing on and you want to check it try swapping them like swap out cyl1 COP if that one is good with the cyl that you're having issues with and see if you get a miss on cyl1 and might as well do the plug while you're there.

Thanks for the reply, but the dealership is saying I need to replace ONLY the boots, not the COPs themselves. I was just wondering if the boots alone could actually make a difference.

I am surprised the suggested only the boots. its usually all that is needed, but a lot of times dealers will try to sell you a complete cop. it also kinda covers their *****, because if they suggest the boot, and it ends up needing a complete COP, then its twice the work, and they only get paid for doin it once. not to mention the truck might actually leave and then come back still having the problem and that just looks bad on the shop and the tech. but since cop's come with new boots, it covers both problems.
if you have the cash, I'd do cop's but if not, just throw some boots on it and see what ya get
