New here, question about the 4.6 v8.
Hello everyone I currently own a ford ranger and I am trading it along with cash for a 2005 f150 standard cab 4wd swb with a v.6 v8 auto and manual tcase. Just wanted to know a little about the engine. I'm not really looking for too much power as I am looking more for reliability. I know the 5.4 is a good engine because my dad bought an 05 fx4 crew cab off the showroom floor and it runs like a charm. So I'm hoping the 4.6 is decent. Thanks in advance.

I have not had quite the success rate that y'all have... not to scare you (OP) away from the 4.6, but mine has 150,000 on it and had to drop a new motor in it last week. I have put 3 starters on it in the last year, as well as an EGR and a new wiring harness. I hope that my experience was just a lemon, but the truck I had before this one (also a 4.6), seemed to be always needing a new part to keep it running.

I loved my 4.6... 114K and outside of oil changes and an air filter once a year, all I did was turn key and drive for 7 years till that fateful day a 91 F150 pulled out in front of me. RIP my SCAB. A reliable vehicle, gone too soon!

Thanks guys I hope it works out good. And JB 2012 yeah I hope I don't have the same problems. My 3.0 in the ranger is so reliable and I'm afraid to give it up. But time will tell. I might not trade. Idk. I'll sleep on it tonight. But if I get the F150 I'll definitely become an active member on here!
