I've had a squeak on my truck for several months now that only happens when I'm in reverse. It's coming from the rear and it's timed with the rotation of the wheels. When I raise the rear end and spin the wheels by hand it won't duplicate the squeak. I took a look at the brakes and they appear to be fine. My thoughts are parking brake or axle bearings. Any of you guys had similar issues? I don't want to replace bearings if that's not it, since that's a sizable job. I've got 106K miles on it and have done regular differential oil changes. Let me know where you think I ought to look. Thanks for the help.

I hope to god its not your transmission.... The only way to really tell is to life the truck off the ground, put it in R and hit the gas (gently). Have a buddy push it by hand while you listen for where the sound is coming from. Once you find out where EXACTLY the sound is coming from then we can go from there... Hope this helps!

I had the exact problem with my truck. The faster you reverse the quicker/louder it squeaks? I had to get my U-joints replaced and its quiet as a mouse now. (Aside from the y-pipe back straight pipe) I believe it was around 100-150. Like 30 minutes of labor from a tire shop

Is there one that's more prone to failing then the other? Got the one at the diff and another at the center bearing.

Another silly question. Does the U-joint come off the shaft or do you have to buy a new shaft with the U-Joint on it? I've had mine off before to lube up the center spline joint as shown in the pic.

Both U-joints can be replaced individually. Not 100% sure how as a shop did it for me. Good luck! That sound was driving me crazy
