New Battery 59 or 65 series...
I have done the search and it seems that to a member I should get the 65 series (850 CCA or thereabouts) but my truck has had an Interstate TOTL battery albeit the 59 series for just over 5 years and has started the truck without issue even during the recent -23 Fahrenheit days...
my Owner's Manual states the 59 is the regular battery (590 CCA or thereabouts) and the 65 is the heavy duty battery...machismo states get the 65/850 CCA battery and at Walmart for their MAXX battery it is even a bit less expensive (seems like a win/win)...I will have to search area Walmarts for the heavy duty choice as many show it not in stock...
does the 65 series fit in the same tray as the 59 and has anyone done the switch???...checking my battery with a multimeter shows it should be fine but 5 years and the end of any warranty has me thinking I'm on borrowed time with this Interstate...Costco shows an Interstate replacement but only the 59 series and not the 65 series
any feedback you care to share would be appreciated...

Yes a 65 will fit right in. Ford puts a 65 size tray in all the trucks. I've never put a 59 in any of my trucks, they all have 65's.

Group 65 with some good CCA is what you want. I installed a diehard platinum group 65 with 900CCA.. spins the crap out of my starter on the coldest mornings.

The downside to the 65 is that the internal construction of plates is tighter and may lead to earlier sulfation or mechanical failure. The upside is more capacity. Opposite is true for the 59. If a quality 59 works and lasts longer than the 65, go with that, seeing as you haven't had issues.

a few things though...the 65 case is physically larger than the case for the 59 but I know of the issues with more plates in the same case...
I also found out something I didn't know about this truck...I had the receipt and all for an Interstate top of the line lead acid battery albeit in the 59 size that showed it's warranty was up but when I took the battery cover off this one, I saw that it had been replaced with an Interstate Powerfast battery with an 18 month warranty rather than the 60 month warranty the original Interstate had and it was the higher capacity 65 series battery but with only 650 CCA...
I wonder if the original battery seller, Firestone replaced a defective TOTL Interstate 59 with their lower 65 series Interstate Powerfast...
nothing I can do about it other than change it when it starts acting up but that might explain why it tested so strong for a 5 year old battery when it is in fact only 23 months old...
Thanks for the help...when I change it it will be with a good 65 series battery with a good warranty and high CCA, CA and RP and probably not an Interstate although I would stick with a Johnson Controls and they make most of any of the alternatives...

that will probably be the battery I go with when it's time...thanks all
the Walmart (36 month replacement 5 year prorate) MAXX version (both made by Johnson Controls) has a 6 month better warranty and would cost me (in ChicagoLand) about $1.20 less than the similar Interstate version at Costco (30 month replacement 5 year prorate)...both cheaper than nearly any premium battery or a regular Interstate near me...
