Compressor always running

Compressor always running
I have a 2006 F150. When I have the heat turned on, my compressor operates, it does cycle on and off but nontheless its on/off. Is this normal? It seems like it shouldn't operate unless the A/C is on. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have it on defrost, the compressor will always run in order to reduce humidity and prevent fogging. I believe by default it does the same on heat. Just push the A/C button and turn it off if you like.

Depending on what system you have the A/C will run by default when on defrost. Even if you have it on mix (floor and defrost). I believe with the manual controls the A/C can't be turned off in these settings. With the auto heater you can.
As stated above this is to remove the humidity and to keep the windshield fog free.
The only way to stop the A/C is to put the system in vent mode. You can then turn the A/C on and off.
Your gas milage will get better also
