need major help!
hey guys, i have an 04 f150 5.4 with 118k.. just last night i replaced all my plugs with autolite HT1 plugs after many weeks of deciding what to do i went ahead and got all 8 done. 4 broke but i got the lisle tool and solved that problem... was going great really happy then i got it all back together, started the truck after hooking my pcm and battery back up, upon starting i noticed a very rough idle that would shake my entire truck. i thought maybe it had to break in the new plugs so i let the truck warm up to operating temp and took it down the road, i had major miss fires and ran like an absolute POS! i came home checked all coil packs and tried it again, this time going down the road my check engine light finally went off, when this happened i could not go over 30-40 mph (i was in a 65 mph zone felt kinda dumb but owell). so i turned around and scanned the truck. code said it was system running lean on bank 2. so i started going through again pulled all coil packs all were in good shape from what i could tell so i looked for vacuum leaks and found nothing. my truck idles at about 200 rpm and jumps from 2-400 every 10 seconds and then just about dies. im really at a loss here ive tried everything i can think of. i just replaced my fuel filter and oil 3 weeks ago so i know its not that but im just running out of ideas... if anyone could think of possible solutions it would be a major help- thanks.
Autolite is your first mistake. Many problems with those plugs in this truck. Next, check your FPDM - the symptoms you're describing could be caused by a bad one - may have just coincidentally gone while you were changing plugs. Next, have a qualified Ford mechanic check over your work.
Did you decarbon the plug holes in the head. If carbon a plenty the plugs may be damaged. You broke off plugs ends. It stands to chance that the same carbon will damage your new ones too. They are two piece and fairly easy to crack loose. Use proper torque, very fussy.
