Let us know when you get it figured out, it will be interesting to see what is causing it. I am getting a similar error on my '05 with 95,000 miles, with a cylinder misfire and a bank running lean. I will be changing all my plugs and COPs next weekend, and go from there.

Guys

Thanks for all the advice and information. I definitely think you are on to something with the fuel system and probably cause serious damage to Catalytic converter. Unfortunately, it came to an ugly head today as I tries some trial and error at the acceleration accept it got much worse almost totally losing any power whatsoever and was even unshifting and downshifting erratically. Sufficient to say I had to drop it at another dealer to examine the cause. I have too many meetings to attend and not enough time to spend with her! What's worse the only loaner car they had was a Focus! I feel like a go Cart racer!

I'll keep everyone posted on the results.

Angry Diagnosis

Okay guys! verdict is back from the dealer and it is left Catalytic converter! I should trusted by instinct on this one and ignored the idiot that tested them! so the damage is $1000.00 for the part and $400 for install from Local Mega-Ford Dealership!

In researching this I cannot even imagine why Ford has not stepped up to address these coil packs. Plugs used to be changed more often but they were much cheaper then and I don't remember having such and early problem with distributors!

It seems however that weeks ago, when my coil pack went out, causing misfires, it gave way for fuel rich exhaust to damage my converter.

You can get that a hell of a lot cheaper somewhere else! And I told you that's what it was.

You should not have to pay anything for a new converter. Read your owners manual but emission related failures are covered under 80k or 8 years per the federal government.
Maggie hi-flows can be had for around $120 a pair though.

Yea man I'd say you could probably get 2 high flows and have them put on for 250 or 300 dollars.

If it is the Cat then go ahead and do what was told before and go with some nice High Flow Cats... plus 1000 is way too high for any cat that I know of. Also I'm still hesitant to trust that the Cat is the problem, but if it does fix the problem then I just learned something new for the day. Please keep us posted.

I would be worried about why the cat failed in the first place. They usually don't fail so there may be an underlying condition that caused the failure.
