MPG ? Topper ? or not
I wouldn't expect any noticeable difference in mileage because of a bedcover..... But they sure are nice to have.
For my personal uses, I wouldn't even consider anything but a hard cover. In fact, I already have a PTM SnugTop SL waiting at the shop, to put on my brand new F150 the day it comes in.
It's very rare that I ever have to haul anything taller than the walls of my bed, but when and if I do, the hard tops come right off. Not too heavy either, but easier with two guys than one, because of the bulkiness.... especially if its breezy :-)
I had a fiberglass bedcover on my last two trucks, for a total of 24 years. I expect to have my SnugTop on my F150 for its 12 to 15 year life, as well. That's another thing about the hardtops vs. the soft covers.... They will last the lifetime of the truck, where you might go through 2 or 3 soft covers.
Plus, IMPO, nothing looks cleaner than a PTM, low profile, fiberglass bedcover. SnugTop or Lear.
Peace,
Fish
