Moving alaska from florida
#51
The wife and I drove from WA state to GA by going down to So. Cal and across. It was a great trip and we got to see all sorts of stuff. I love to drive though, especially in the south west. It was tiring though sitting in the car for all those hours.

Hey all,
yeah things went great for the trip. i did so much overall the trip took me about five weeks.i enjoyed it quite a bit as well as my wife. we started in florida and onthe first morning made it as far as gainsville - we had to take one more day to watch the gators. Needless to say they won and it was a great game. next we traveled from gainsville and spent a couple days in tally visiting an old friend, found our way to new orleans after that. Enjoyed alot of the new orleans cooking. Moved on after a couple days to texas pretty much until we got to corpus christi - spent a couple days there and went over the boarder to mexico for a few days. Moved on to austin to visit an old friend and the turned north towards new mexico and of course we had to check out roswell lol. moved on into arazona and spent four days at the grand canyon national park. Backing and all that sort of goodies. Went out on the 200' glass bridge over the grand canyon and must say as an architect i was marvelled at the engineering behind that. I must say i bet they used alot of deadman anchors (holds up watch bulk heads). Passed thru los vegas and into calafornia to see the redwood forests, of course we saw the hoover dam and all i have to say is my god! that was beautiful! Stopped various places between cali and canada/washington - even past close to "forks" washington (location of the twilight movies). Truck faired very well had a couple incidents like i had a blowout on highway a couple of times (all in texas and AZ) other than that was gret drive. The roads got a little tricky as i went thru britsh columbia. Towards the line near the yukon border the truck had a couple of problems and i had 02 sensor start giving me problems. so i had to find somewhere to not only get the parts, but get a place to stay and up this way there really wasn't much - gas stations as we got north got few and far between. Eventually it got fixed, it was causing an idoling issue if i remember correctly but i don't really lol...i beleive it was whitehorse in the yukon terretory that we finally got some parts for the truck....keep in mind, i was towing a 16' closed car trailer full of stuff. continued on thru wrangell national park in the alaskan country and finally arriving into anchorage. I must say the drive was well worth it. All and all i think the truck average around 15-18mpg towing a trailer i believe. Math could be wrong the jury is still out on that one. My new headlights i installed made the world of difference both the HID fog/headlights and the six kc daylights - i found alot of instances where i had all ten lights on - 2 headlights -2 fog lights - 6 kc daylights.....lol wow....was bright. I saw alot of wild life and took alot of pictures i am still getting them together as i took well over three thousand pictures - the glory i guess of digital right? lol....anyways i should have pictures in the next few days.
Best thing i can take away from this is that as an architect i truely understand the philosophies behind green designs and why the world is "going green" fad or not....wildlife like that and trips like that truely do show you the way things are intended to be seen. I can't wait until the summer. I would love to make the trip from anchorage down into the yukon again and over to washington state and into the midwest and back - perhaps to boston lol....maybe a strech huh.....

I'm envious that you did such a trip. I hope to get to do the same type some day.
Stopping in Gainesville to see the great Florida Gators before the trip is always a highlight of a trip!
Thanks forthe update; glad you and yours made it safely, and got to see so much of our great country.
Any pics of the trip?
