Looking to throw a ZX14 in the bed (5.5') of my SCREW. Only problem is the wheelbase of the ZX14 (read, front of front tire to bottom of rear tire) is longer than the bed of the F150. It's a long trip, NY to TN, so i'd prefer not to have the rear wheel on the tailgate.
I'm not sure the tailgate will hold the 550lbs of the bike, as well as myself (200lbs) when loading it up with ramps.
My only thought is to put a few 2x8's down in the middle for the wheels to sit on, so that the weight is distributed a little better.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to better distribute weight over the tailgate - or even better - will the tailgate actually hold that kind of weight for that duration of time?
Any suggestions or input (beyond trailering it) would be greatly appreciated

My tailgates have held many four wheelers across rough country side terrain, bumps, washouts, and all without any problems.

Have hauled multiple bikes long distances without issue (unless you count getting a couple of 400 lb bikes up a ramp into the bed of 4WD lol. Next time I'm buying a trailer!).

If your ramp is long enuff move it onto that once the bike is up in the truck. I.E. load bike to the left side of center put on kickstand, lay ramp down then move it on top of the ramp. Keeps ramp down and bike off tailgate for support

Ive hauled my stretched Busa from Texas to Minnesota. No worries about it riding on tailgate. Only problem for me was getting a lowered bike up ramps on a truck sitting on 35s with 6" lift. Needed 2 people

I have a 08 Screw with a 6-1/2" bed, 4wd H9 rear axle.
I use it primarily to commute, but also to haul bikes that need work.
Ive had everything in that bed from a busa, triumphs to regular sport bikes...
I have a rolling tonneau cover that takes up about 12" of truck bed...so i have a 5-1/2" usable bed.
All of those bikes were loaded up with just myself!

don't know if this helps you or not but had my Ultra Classic in my 6.5 rear tire sitting on gate , Just remember to put a 2x4 or 6 across the front of your bed front tire to rest against, unless you don't mind a dent in the front of your bed

Agreed with Stangconv. I always put my bikes in diagonal. Gives you the option to keep the tail gate closed. If it is still too long, then add some sort of support to the front tire to keep it from turning.
This has worked for me from dirt bikes to old Honda CB350F's which is my latest project. You should be fine.

The tail gate will hold it no problem. Ive ridden atv's up on the bed with ramps before (I'm 172, atv ~450). I've also loaded an old projector tv (350 lbs) with all the weight on the gate before it was moved back to be strapped in. Also have moved a full size fridge with the weight on the back until it was strapped in. I have confidence your situation will be no different. If in doubt, rent a trailer.
