Default monroe quick struts

has anybody used the econo-matic quick strut provided by monroe in lieu of the standard quick strut? ive been reading over them this morning as we had a spring break on the wifes truck last night. the warranty is better on the standard quickstrut but im not sure if thats worth $100 more on the set from my local parts store. i just need something quick and safe to get this thing back on the road. just looking for input on the less expensive model...

thanks in advance

I wouldn't do it but thats just me. I have been bitten by cheap parts before. Honestly I wouldn't even go monroes. There are many other really good options out there for our trucks. And if you are doing these they should be done in pairs. Again that is just my opinion.

Rock auto has great prices and good options. I got my parts this time from Shock warehouse. I went with Bilsteins.

always in pairs... ive used monroes on cars and never had problems. her truck is a pavement princess so theres no need for upgrades etc... however i cant frind anything citing the differences between the standard and econo version other than warranty. if it wasnt a financial concern i wouldnt think twice about it, just need it fixed today when i get out of work. i know the standard quick strut assembly is a good product as i said, ive used it many times with great results. i am just not familiar with this econo-quick strut so i wanted to see if anyone had installed them and have had any issues.

go with what you know. Compare spring rates and overall spec. Obviously go with the one that meets ford spec or with overall better build quality. Monroe is a trusted brand, wouldn't sweat it

Just installed the monroe quick struts on my truck 3 weeks ago. Very impressed with the ride quality and for $150 shipped for the pair on rockauto not sure how you could go wrong.

ok... for $150 a pair yours shouldve had the blue/purple strut, thats the econo one going off of the pricing on rock auto. no difference in ride quality, height, etc...? stiffer/softer?

Just to clarify I have used Monroes' before on cars and they worked great. Just put a set of struts on my lil mazda a few weeks ago. I just have never used them on trucks.

Also right now Monroe has their sale at buy 3 get one free. So if you can swing it, it might be better to get new parts on all 4 corners. You are basically paying for just one more shock. Just a thought. If it were me, I would get the regular ones and not the econo ones. I don't have any experience with them, I just have been burnt with cheap parts before.

Sorry I can't help you as I just put the 171362's on my truck where you are talking about the 181361's. However, the specs are different concerning

181361 171362
Body Length 16.875" 15.300"
Compressed Length 17.330" 15.800"
Extended Length 21.630" 20.740"
Travel Length 4.300" 4.940"

as have i and thats why im looking for any experience. inbetween pays at the moment and need her vehicle back on the road today so that eliminates ordering online as an option or id get moogs from rockauto for the same price as these econos at the local store... it just cant wait 3-4 days and my options are limited.

correct they are blue and the ride height never changed. Ride quality is better than stock, a touch firmer but even at 65k my stock ones were shot so anything would feel better.
