pull the oil pan
Best test for this noise . Look for guide pieces and shiny grains from aluminum timing cover . When she starts whipping the chain eats the timing cover . Never hurts to clean pan out .

Just following up
I recently did my timing job about 1 month ago and to my surprise, I didn't find any broken guides only a loose chain on the pass side from a failed tensioner. I will upload a video and show you guys how loose it is. Anyways back to the noise, I still have no idea what it could of been? Idler pulley is bad and possibly the belt tensioner also. Maybe that could be the cause of the noise.

Wow it seems like you take a lot of chances with this motor.
Forgive me I know about budgets, but when you are inside the timing cover you have to go out on limb and do her right .
Sounds like you did not do the final fix by svares. If I were you I would use the old metal tensioners and of course all new oem parts . Those metal tensioners are ratcheting giving better tension when oil low .
That slap just sounds like the chain eating the timing cover. Aluminum grains will be in oil pan . The whipping chains are usually a sign of a broken guide and low oil pressure from a blown tensioner .
I hardly ever punch my engine, it causes stress and I need her there for work . My ear is tuned to that engine and I feel it when I overload it so the speed comes down to get to the job slower .
I hope you are lucky and its outside the timing cover . That clutch fan sounds scary .

It hasn't happened since the rebuild. Might have been a misunderstanding. I was just suggesting that the idler pulley and belt tensiner could have been the cause of that noise.
