Maybe going to be really let down with this truck
2007 4x4 XLT 5.4L Automatic 41,000 miles.
I'm not sure of the exact trans at this time, but I have a growling noise coming from the trans area when in first gear, until it shifts into second, then it goes away. The noise is loud enough to be worried about. I just got back from a 250 mile trip and pulled into the grocery store and heard it once I was in the parking lot. Truck drives fine, shifts fine, no chattering, stuttering or binding. Does it in 4 wheel or 2 wheel. No codes. Fluid is fine and smells brand new. Any ideas? Torque converter? Why are there so many major problems with these trucks? I am die hard on maintenance and yet the most expensive truck that I have bought has trans problems at 41,000 miles? Nice. Seems to me that I will have to have the stealership hook up thier real time diagnostic to see when the TC is locking/unlocking. |
Not good. Scares me as well as I tow with mine and I only have 60k miles. No issues yet, but posts like this scare me.

Truck is at the dealer. So far they have said that there is internal Trans problems and it will need to come out, most likely a bearing inside.
At least i can breathe easier seeing as though it will only cost me $100.00 due to my powertrain warranty. |
Sounds like you got a rare problem tranny...no big deal, use that warranty and be glad this should fix your problem....I've got an 05 5.4 with 125k and no issues what so ever

Sounds to me like a planetary gear is bad. I had the same thing happening on another truck I owned and once you got out of the lower gears, it was fine. Ended up getting the transmission rebuilt.

I will post back when i find out exactly what it was. They won't even get at it for a week and a half.
