Default 2006 5.4 cat converter cost

I'm looking at an 06 with the 5.4 for my friend to buy. Buyer says it needs a new catalytic converter to pass air care. Are there 2 cats? Anyone know how much it would cost to have them replaced?

Don't quote me on this but I think the 04-06 had 4 cats. Ford cut costs in the 07-08 with a 2 cat system. You could probably find some universal cats that would weld up fine. I know magnaflow makes some pretty nice cats you could look into. If you decide to get the truck come back and we can be a bit more specific on routes you can explore.

Best to get a quote from a muffler shop.... Us BC boys pay a lot more for exhaust systems that the guys in the states. I had a quote for something like $900 for a cat back single in, single out flowmaster exhaust that wasn't even stainless. I ended up buying a Banks stainless steel kit for $350 or so and installing myself. My point being, that a guy on this forum from North Carolina or wherever will likely be half as much as you will pay.

Go to a shop and get a quote on some hi-flo cats as they seem to be the most cost-efficient replacement. Even if you don't have the shop.

My 06 has 2 cats. Got them replaced 3 times already.

First 2 with the 80,000mi warranty (had the aFE CAI installed w/out a tune which clogged my cats), the 3rd time paid $350 to get them replaced. No problems and no codes have shown.

Okay thanks. It may have just been the 04-05 models then I know it wasn't for very long!
