Hope this doesn't slow you up much as we are waiting to see a very good outcome .

I did pick up a brand new set from Napa but they're too short. Will get from elsewhere. Centering it is going to be the challenge as it's quite a ways down and hard to see.

I've read that some guys have used an appropriate size valve guide or similar as a centering insert in the hole or a pre-drilled bolt same size as existing. May have to check with a machine shop to see if they can supply.

Default Sounds like a good Idea ,centering guide that is

The longer the bit the more careful you will have to be for breakage . Gonna have to suck out hole debris with vacuum .

Default Update - Still Here!

With my busy time right now, it's been hard to find time to get to the truck, but I have good news.

Finally extracted that broken head bolt! Had a machine shop custom make a drilling guide and supply an end mill and carbide drill bit. Drilled enough into the broken bolt to get an extractor to bite and using a tap wrench, turn it by hand. I've attached a pic of the extracted piece.

Both heads are on and taking a quick break before returning to install cams, phasers, timing kit, and oil pan.

OK so recleaned everything good. Installed left side cam, phaser, VCT solenoid, chain, guides, and tensioner. All lined up properly. I did it with the cam caps loose and all roller followers in. Didn't want to acquire spring compressor and associated hassle. Went quite smooth.

Right side to be installed today and then on to valve covers and intake manifold.

Are the valve cover bolt grommets easy to replace? New ones came in the Fel-pro engine gasket kit.

VC grommets were quite easy. Hadn't looked too closely but seen they come off with a flat pry blade.

Haven't installed right side cam etc. due to a missing exhaust manifold stud. Had ordered a stainless steel stud/nut set for each side and found there were only 7 studs in one package. Will try to pick one up locally.
