You definitely learn a great deal when you get this deep in.
I'm expecting a delivery any day now for stainless studs from Metric Screw & Tool Co.
I really only want to do this once!!

New Heads
Picked up the new heads. Pictured is left side with newly installed followers & lash adjusters from Ford Racing.
Right side deck cleaning is taking a little longer. May consider using a white Roloc to speed things up. Then again, maybe hour and a half left by hand.

Blowing galleys out.
I did an engine with a friend not long ago where we used air. He had a device that had a small long coppertube that created much pressure. After putting degreaser and carb cleaner in the galleys they were blown out until they were clean.

Sounds like a good way to do it. I did finally find a brush kit in stock at a local speed shop. Same with the thread chaser. Ford decided to go with a not too common M11 size and after asking around, found one at a reasonable price.

Tonight I begin reinstalling parts, beginning with the oil pump. Just have to finish off a little more on left block deck.
Valve covers and timing cover took quite some time to clean, but got them down to just the baked in varnish.
Happened to find that MMO in town and was told it's what K&N uses for their air filter oil. Anyone heard this before? Used some on the tops of the pistons and it cleaned the last of the black stuff (carbon?) fairly rapidly. Was impressed.

Renaissance Honky
Marvel Mystery Oil's reason for existing was loosening up and dissolving carbon and varnish deposits. Funny thing is, 90 years later and it still works. I'm a believer.
pretty sure K&N has something much more specialized for their air filter oil... something pretty sticky. They definitely don't smell the same.
