Way too much for an 04 with that kind of miles. I just picked up my 04 FX4 with 189k miles for less than $4k. And that's with new brakes and tires.

Got my 2004 4WD XLT Supercab 183,000 miles with new tires, decent body, Very good interior, Tow and mirror package, rusty underneath...small holes in muffler, broken glass side mirrors, and passenger window not working for $4000. Only gave him that because he had new tires on it (about $500-600) for those.

Now I'm working on all these problems but I bought it as a project truck.

I got mirror glasses (Dorman $35 for both), OE style cat back exhaust ($179 w/shipping from RockAuto), Fluids, filters, etc..) and plan to baby it as I only go 3000 to 4000 miles a year max.

Anything else I would not have bought it, as I plan to never push it due to cam phaser/VCT/possible issues)

Good luck.

That seem a little high. I bought my lariat 05 with 176k for 7000 and I've had to put in about 3k in parts so be ready to start throwing money at it right away.
Things I had to fix on it
Can phasers
Upper control arms
Lower ball joints
Tie rod ends
Manifold gaskets
All rotors and pads
Tires
Plugs and one COP
Love my truck but at that high of a mileage be ready to start throwing money at it to get it where you want it.

Long time listener, first time caller here but for some perspective...

I just bought an 04 stx for $5k.. Wasn't planning on buying until I turned it over and the odometer read 41,000 miles..!

Told the salesman to get it under 6 grand and I'd buy. Didn't even test drive it.

And I have not regretted it for a second.

HA! Exactly a year ago today I posted here about my purchase.
https://www.f150forum.com/f4/first-t...stions-309250/

During my online truck search I found 100,000 miles to be the "sweet spot", less mileage and the price really went up, more mileage and it seemed to level off.

Truck options didn’t seem to make much difference in the asking prices. In fact, this was the most difficult part, I would see a nice truck, then see a window crank inside door!

My truck came from 1,000 miles away, shipping was about $700. Well worth it not to get one with NY rust!

Oh, and this one was well maintained, replaced the spark plugs a couple weeks ago, and they came out like they were put in yesterday (and they were the updated plugs with anti-seize). Found a record in the console indicating trans was serviced at 50K.
