Default LED headlight conversion

Just fyi, this LED headlight conversion i installed in my truck recently is absolutly badass. They are brighter more realiable and a much cleaner white light than my hid kit was. I bought it off amazon for rita about 100. Genssi brand.

Output shot? Preferably against a wall.

yeah I have my doubts that it costs $100 for an equal or better output than halogen. considering the germans spent millions on r&d for led headlights

It entirely depends on housing application. To strictly brighten halogen light output in a reflector setup (ie: not a projector light) without actually increasing it via a pure white color change would yeild percieved HUGE increase in performance.... while not being actually any better. There are trade-off's. LED's by nature are not good for distance. Hence, high end cars like Audi's have multiple LED's in their assembly that actually vary in both brightness and directional output. Other high end manufacturers have them in fog lights as well, where they're MUCH better suited for now.

I have them in both of my current cars. I installed CREE's in my wife's 2014 RAV4 low beams and they were terrible. This was not really the diode's fault but rather the car's. The 9005 low beam bulb goes into the headlight assembly transversely. I've never seen a setup like that but it positioned the diode in a manner that was not conducive to spreading the light even half as well as a halogen bulb. The cut-off though... was amazing. I removed them immediately and put them in the high beam. Again, not as good as the halogen that came out but better light color so I'll leave them in there.

I also have them on my current DD, a 2014 Sentra SR. Morimoto LED's from TheRetrofitSource. Again, much better light color but actual distance projection is significantly less. Actually, if I could return them, I would- both sets.

Proper HID projector retrofit still can't be beat until a real LED conversion becomes available. Hell, even the new Corolla has LED headlights and they're better than halogens but not as good as HID's, especially in the rain.

I meant a proper conversion with a projector retrofit, etc. Usually $500+ depending on who does it and what parts are used. Plug and play HID's yes, potentially beaten depending on the housing they're installed in. I agree.

Edit- I should add that I am very happy you are impressed with your purchase. That's what makes mods to your vehicle fun.

I've got 9005 Cree led's in my fogs and they are not great for distance like Lenn mentions.. They look fantastic, and do work good however.. Just not the best..

I wouldn't put them in my headlight housings.. Probably won't be able to see very well in the rain..

Pictured are my 35 watt Cree led's from amazon.. The headlights would require a side fire bulb to work well, but they will likely be terrible in the rain..
I'm not complaining about fog light led's here, just saying that for headlights, the technology still has a little ways to go.. I'm still running a 3 year old set of hella halogens in my heads for safety reasons.. They have dimmed a bit from their former white light appearance.

While I do agree that LED is not an alternative nor is any better than an HID in a proper projector. I know by my own side by side comparisons and a few months worth of testing, that LED is in fact a much better alternative to an HID in a halogen housing, brighter than any halogen bulb, and will outlast any halogen bulb. Living up north, I also need a light with no warm up time and LED provided just that.
