Overdirve or not overdrive for daily use
Hello,
I own a 2008 F-150 STX with a 4.6 engine and fricking love it. Just returned from a trip to Texas from Michigan pulling a trailer and my son-in-law suggested I not run the OD through the hills of our country. Of course, he told me after I returned. Is it beneficial to not be OD for daily trucking here and there? Or are the benefits to the tranny not that significant?
Like I said, I own this truck and want it to last as long as every other Ford truck I have owned.
Thanks.
Mike

Use overdrive for daily driving. Shut it off when towing something, it prevents the transmission from working too hard.

Only shut off the OD when pulling a grade...you should be able to Tow on flat road no problem..

Well, those are all great replies. Sure wish I would have found this site before heading to texas with an enclosed trailer to bring back my mom's stuff. I can't complain though. Yes, the tranny kept "searching for gears" (new term I recently learned) but I got over 15 mpg on that trip.
Thanks for the assistance. Great info here.
