key or pats
hi all new to the group
been searching around can't find an answer
I have only one factory key, hoop broken off the top, cracks down both sides. it has worked fine for several years now it works intermittently. pats light flashes normal, turn the key to ignition on and light continues to flash regular, try to start and nothing. "check gauges" comes up on odo display light continues to flash normally the whole time.
try it the next day, pats light goes out, truck starts like normal. shut truck off immediately and no start condition is back. this has been going on for a week now locksmith on phone said pats ring on column, I'm thinking new keys anybody else experience this condition? any thoughts?

I would probably start with a new key just because it seems like the cheapest and easiest option.
Hardware stores and some locksmiths just clone your old key chip for the new key so it just shows up as the same key.
the dealer or you can yourself with forscan and extended license add a new key to the list stored in the ecm.
If the ring sensor is the problem a new key won't help other than to help you narrow it down, but it's a good idea to have a spare key anyway in my opinion.
