Just a thought about swaps
I don't know, maybe I'm missing something or I'm just not that educated about Fords, been a Toyota guy since age 8. Owned a few Tacomas and 4runner and completed swaps in my garage with my bro. I love my F150 and thought about picking up a 07 GT mustang as a commuter car so been doing research.
Here's my question, I see guys on the mustang forums swapping motors like nothing; 5.4 3v, new 5.0 coyote, turbos etc. if mustang dudes can do these so "easily" what's going on with us F150 dudes? Seems like whenever someone post a thought about a bigger motor swap, folks always shoot them down and say things such as "not worth it" or "buy a truck with the motor already in it." What makes our trucks so difficult to swap motors? Again, just a thought...

just my .02 but i think a lot of it comes from the price of the motors. For example if you want an ecoboost raptor it is actually cheaper to buy a ecoboost f150 then do a frame, body, and suspension swap on it than it would be to buy the raptor and put an ecoboost engine in it... just what ive heard.

Well the older f150s are easy to do em in. Alot of mustang guys on those forums have em for performance and have their engines tore down and swapped all the time. Plus an f150 is a daily driver main vehicle usually. Alot of ppl with mustangs dont have to use them to get from a to b, theyre their toy.

I get what you're saying that a lot of mustangs are toys and not dd; however, same could be said about our trucks, to some their trucks are just for off road, hunting, camping or towing rigs. I see a lot of 05-09 mustangs with 5.4 swaps but its almost unheard of for a 4.6 NBS truck to swap in a 5.4. I would think swapping a 5.4 into a mustang is no different then to do it in a f150. You have PCM, motor mounts, and tranny to figure out.

i would love to swap in a 6.2l in my truck but like they said, the motor itself is insanely expensive and my truck is a dd so unless i get a really good deal and take a week off of work, it aint gunna happen!

Why don't you just wait for a good amount of miles then have the motor bored out? And maybe a stroker kit?

You don't hear trouble with a 05-09 5.4 3v swap cause they are 3v to begin with where as our 4.6 is a 2v things are more difficult.. Unless you do a 5.4 2v swap which I plan to do when my 4.6 craps out... Just find a 5.4 2v low mileage and get some intake adapter plates for a 99-04 4.6 2v to 5.4 2v for simplicity of using your current intake

As long as the blocks are about the same size, swapping is just a matter of know-how and having the tools to do it. It's nice to get the same block (just bored larger) so you don't have to screw with the motor mounts.
Other than that, its just a matter of making sure everything fits. The way these motors are shoe-horned in there with all the plumbing and emission control garbage, sometimes a larger block is a challenge.

There's a guy floating around on the interwebs with a v10 in his f150, 6.8 liter is what it is.
