I'd be happy with that so I could use it in the mean time while I scrapped up some extra cash to buy some custom tunes lol.

That's a very good question, my friend!
It's been a few years - I do not recall if the conversion went from X2--> SF2 or the other way, but it was a one-shot deal and irreversible.
Ahh... I just checked - it's SF2 --> X2
Refer to this: http://www.sctflash.com/support/inde...eid=35&nav=0,2
I never understood why it could not be done the other way, but these is no info supporting that on SCT's site, other than a veiled reference about sending in a X2-converted SF2 to be converted back for a fee ( and it needs to be shipped to SCT).
That will likely cost almost as much as just getting custom files for the X2 in the first place, so I don't think it's worth it myself.
BTW - more info on yer device can be found here: http://www.sctflash.com/support/inde...gebase&_a=view
.... including the firmware update procedure I mentioned earlier.
Good hunting, OP! Some of the tunin' fellers will offer discounts if multiple tunes are ordered at once. Scrutinize those websites I listed fer more details. There be forms to fill out as well prior to ordering. If you need any more help don't hesitate to ask.

So I have been talking with the seller as he doesn't know much about programmers. He now says that it is indeed vin lock but put back to stock setting. Does this make any sense to anyone?

Ok if I had to guess I think this is falling under the "Stock" Category and I should be able to fix it lol.
FOR THE X2 9400 AND THE SF 9415:
Status will either be: Stat=Stock, Stat=Aftermarket, or Stat=Unused.
*This is the breakdown of what each one means:*
FOR THE X2 9400 AND THE SF 9415:
- Power up the device by plugging in to either a vehicle's OBDII port or a computer's USB port. (usb cable not included)
- Once powered up, scroll all the way down to device info.
- Press select, this will display firmware version and serial number.
- Press select again, and this will display the Tuner Status.
Status will either be: Stat=Stock, Stat=Aftermarket, or Stat=Unused.
*This is the breakdown of what each one means:*
- Stat=Stock - Your tuner is half locked, but fixable. Go the the tech support page, select the Ford Xcalibrator 2 in the first drop down, select Device Update Software in the second drop down and hit Search. Download Liveload 3 by clicking the "Click Here to Download" next to it. Install this application, once installed open it up, plug in the X2. The program asks the X2 to be on the main menu. Program Vehicle is the main menu of the X2s. Press the unlock button within the liveload application. This will change the status to Unused and the tuner will then be ready to tune a new vehicle.
- Stat=Aftermarket - The vehicle is VIN locked, you need to either return the vehicle it is currently locked to back to stock, or you will need to call Tech Support and Get a Return Authorization, send it the Device and pay an Unlocking Fee.
- Stat=Unused - Your tuner is not locked, go tune.

EDIT - VIN-Locked is in the Aftermarket category. Ask him fer some screenshots and post 'em.
Returning an X2 back to stock automatically removes the VIN-lock.
In effect he needs to reflash his vehicle back to his original PCM factory tune that is currently stored in the programmer. It's the only way. How can he not know this? The menu system is very straightforward.
If he refuses, walk away, get a refund, file a claim, whatever. It's not worth the fee to unlock it for that old a unit.
This is not all that uncommon... I don't trust him now. Explains the lowball price too.

If it says AFTERMARKET it's VIN-locked and you cannot do it yerself.
You could have had those screenshots by now if he was legit. Those will 110% tel you the facts here.

MGD has it correct. Get him to power up the tuner, ( standard USB printer power cord will work ), go to device info, and hit select three times and have him send you a pic of that screen. Aftermarket = locked and you don't want it. SCT charges same amount of $150 to unlock and unit isn't worth that. Status unused or stock means it can be used again with your own custom tune and you use liveload program to complete the unlock process.

We he as yet to respond to my reply to power up the programmer to find out which it is... And I looked at the listing - no returns. I did message him and ask if he would refund my money so hopefully I can get it back.
-EDIT-
He messaged me back and gave me a full refund. I am just happy that the guy was honest and willing to work with me. Thanks Franchi and MGD for all of the help and useful information! I would have been lost if you two didn't chime in haha
