Jerking while hitting the gas
Looking for some help here...04 FX4 5.4...when I am driving, in overdrive, if I let off the gas, then press it down again, it starts jerking real bad. It will do it a few times, then stop. It is killing me since you often have to let off the gas while driving on the highway, and then jerk jerk jerk as I get back on it. It does not seem to do it if I turn off the overdrive. Any help is appreciated.

It's almost always a miss. Have you replaced the plugs and coil packs? My 05 did the same thing. Tune up fixed it right up. Won't throw a check engine code but believe if you take it to a shop with a ford scan tool they can give you the cylinder.

Had the same problem in a previous truck, the cause was from a cylinder not having compression but check the plugs and make sure they all are firing/test them, and if they work then it could be a chance the seal is shot on the cylinder

Clean your MAF and Throttle body. Throw a new fuel filter in it.

Does it only jerk at low rpm or at higher rpm too? If it's only at lower rom (i had it between 1500-2300) i'd change coils and/or plugs. Sounds like a misfire as already posted above.
I pulled codes and it threw a mis. I changed plugs/coils and the truck runs like new now. It's a maintainence thing, which my pre-owner didn't do. Just a hint...

Change the plugs, change fuel filter, and xhange the maf. I also got some dielectric grease and put a dab in the end of each coil pack both at the plug and at the plug end. Solved the problem right away. The plugs fixed it but I changed the fuel filter just for safe measure and it sure was dirty. Made a big difference in fuel economy and throttle response.

Thanks for all the help. It looks like I will be doing a basic tune-up soon when I can get her back home where my jack and tools are. I am in DC area now...house and garage are in Columbus, Ohio...she should make it back there....I'll let you all know once she's complete with those things you've all listed.
