Default intermittent speedometer

Hey guys,
Truck is an 05 lariat, a few weeks ago I noticed the speedometer kinda works when it wants to. When it doesn't work the needle will kinda bounce a bit. And other times it works just fine. Any idea on what to look into/change?
Thanks!

Could be the speed sensor.

Also, you could try removing the two large connector plugs on top of the speedometer cluster, then reinstalling them.

There are a couple eBay services that will repair your cluster for around $100 if it comes to that. I have used them and have been satisfied with their work and customer service.

Ok, where is the VSS at? Haven't ever had to deal with it before crawled around under it today and everything seems to be as it should. Was looking around the drivers side of the transmission. Otherwise it works when I start it and let it idle down from the high idle upon first start up of the day, and if I don't it doesn't work. If I shut it off and start it after the first start of the day it doesn't work. When it doesn't work the needle in the gauge bounces like it wants to work but doesn't. Its goofy
