Default Install of Ford 90MM Throttle Body

Whether supercharged or stock anyone can benefit from this info. Restriction in your intake and how to find it. A simple vacuum gauge is all you need :http://www.tuneruniversity.com/blog/...iction-part-i/

Some time ago I became curious if there was any restriction in my intake. So I plumed a vacuum gauge in to it and went for a ride. Around 11psi of boost I was measuring 1 inch of vacuum and by 12psi I ha 1.5-2" of vacuum. Acccording to test done by Kenne Bell this each inch of vacuum in the intake is good for 1/2 pound of boost which cost hp. The Whipple inlet measures 3.5" in diameter and I had a 80mm throttle body. So the throttle body was even more restriction. This got me looking. I found a 90mm unit made by Ford but designed for the new Mustangs. I ordered one and began trying to make it fit the truck this past Tuesday. It's an impressive piece.

The throttle body proved to be to large to mount right side up or upside down. So I began looking at the possibility of an adapter plate or mounting it sideways. As it turn out mounting it sideways proved to be beneficial for the new 4" intake ducting I planed to use. I made a template, marked spots I would need to drill and tap for the mounting screws, and proceeded.

I also had to port the Whipple inlet to match the whopping 90mm opening. Had this completed Wednesday and was able to use some ducting I had for a test drive.

This throttle body performed better then I could have imagined. It is perfectly calibrated out of the box. Idle was perfect, air/fuel ratios were great, and throttle response was much improved.

Yesterday I visited a local boat yard and stumbled across some 4" Marine Wet Exhaust hose. Over kill for my needs but the gentlemen at the yard let me have a scrap piece they had removed from a boat. It cleaned up nicely. I acquired an elbow from Advance Auto and some 4" clamps from Lowes. Here's the end result.

I have to install my analog boost gauge to see. Haven't had a chance plus it's raining here this evening.

Yes. Just about to turn 90,000 miles. Hope to go drag racing in two weeks to see what improvements this makes. It will really pay off when I switch to a built motor.

Nice info! So this was well worth the trouble and price? I'm guessing throttle response was the biggest benefit.
