Default Idler pulley?

Would an idler pulley or belt tensioner make an engine whine. I have an 07 5.4 and it really makes a crappy whine around2000 rpm and up. Im starting to think its one those2 things. Any input would be great. Thank u

It could be either but my bet would be the alternator. Mine does it as well but usually only when it's a bit colder out, not all the time. Does it do it when you rev it? Have someone listen with the good open if it does.

Yes it does it all the time it just started happening about a month ago. Its a pretty loud and annoying scratchy whine to.

It's most likely your alternator, but for only $50 you can replace the tensioner and pulley. This will get rid of the whine, because mine is gone after replacing all 3.

Idler tension arm. The whole thing. The bearings in it are probably shot. Exact same problem I had about 3 weeks ago.
