Default ID Rear Differential, 2008 4.6L XLT SCrew

...rear wheel drive.

I've been searching around, but can't figure out how to identify which size and type I have. I've also checked the VIN decoder but no help. Wanting to change diff fluid on new to me truck with 80,000 miles.

There's a sticker on the axle shaft and a tag on a diff cover bolt, with ID numbers. You'll have to get under and look. The sticker on the door jamb has an area called "Axle" with letters and/or numbers under it.

Gear ratio and differential type (open vs limited slip) can be determined by the door sticker. The axle itself can be ID'd visually. If the cover is square w/rounded corners it's an 8.8 - If it's a trapezoid (w/rounded corners) it's a 9.75.

Thanks guys, got it! What my stickers/tags note (and what I found it means):

Sticker on axle shaft: V808A
Left cover bolt metal tag: V808A, 3 55 88 8D08 (Plant Code: Van Dyke, Model Number: 808, Revision Identifier: A, Gear Ratio: 3.55, Ring Gear Size 8.8", Year: '08, Month: April, Day: 8)
Right cover bolt metal tag: 75W140 SYNTH OIL ONLY
Door Tag: AXLE 19 (3.55 Non-LS)

This is a new to me '08 with 80,000 miles. Both of the metal tags are oriented away from the cover, and I can see where they were over the top of the cover because of paint evidence, so the fluid must have been changed at some point. I just need to find out when from the dealer who the previous owner always had the truck serviced at, before I decide to change. I plan to change at every 60,000 miles. Anything else I need to know?

Don't rely on guesses when the diff fluid was changed. It's an easy job, if you have time. Take a rolled up papertowel and dip it into the fill plug. You'll be able to check the level and the color of the fluid. I highly recommend you just change it, since it's easy enough.
