i dont know which truck to get!?!?
Ok , I am very confused on which f150 I want to get. I don't know if I should get the 4x4 4.6l v8 stx or the 4x2 5.4l v8 xlt.. I would like to know which gets better mpg, tows more, and which is the overall better truck. Please help guys!

Devil's advocate
I vote 4x4 STX too. That's what I got. The 4.6 is the most proven of the Modular engines and without the pesky little quirks of the 5.4. Of course if you like the extra power go with the 5.4 but anything a 5.4 can do, a 4.6 can too. You'll get slightly better mileage with the 4.6.

There's reasons for getting getting a 4x2, but most people do go with the 4x4 regardless of the amount of offroading they do. The 4.6 will get better MPG but if you start doing mods like bigger tires, you will definitely notice a loss of power and obviously the mpg will go down as well. The xlt is probably a tad nicer inside and it does come in a supercrew. Bascially the xlt will probably have more ammenities but the stx is probably the better truck

Neither one. Keep looking.
Get a 4x4 with a 5.4. The gas mileage is only rated at 1 mpg more for the smaller motor and to me the 4.6 is rather gutless feeling compared to my 5.4.
Its nice to have 4wd when you need it. Ive had a few 2wd trucks and they sucked in the winter. Id never buy another 2wd.
The 5.4 can definately tow more because of the extra horsepower. Most STX's dont come with a factory tow package like alot of the 5.4 trucks do. My XLT has a tranny cooler, bigger rear differential, factory hitch and trailer wiring.
The STX is a basic truck while the XLT has alot more standard features (power windows, locks, carpeting, etc).
