Default My Fix

The day I got a set of 33" Toyos is the same time part of my IWE system busted, but I didn't know for 2 months. Thought it was just the tires that sounded like an airplane driving down the road with and annoying loud to even louder whirl, that ended up driving me into buying a second set of 2018 stock wheels and tires to get rid of it.......But it was still there. After reading the forum and the 4 main components....actuator, solenoid, check valve and vacuum hoses. I decided to start from cheap to most expensive part first. Bam! Valve check had busted and wasn't creating a vacuum. $4.50 from Advanced Auto Parts and 20 minutes of my time including driving. Very relieved I didn't go to a dealer. Plus I have a brand new set of off the truck road wheels and tires from the Ford Dealership with a set of 2014 TPMS so I can swap them as I want. That's $700 I could have saved.....but oh well. Pumped I dont have to worry about it. Great forum!

How bad were they grinding and how many miles did you drive with them doing it? Hoping I am not the bearer bad news. The reason I ask, one or both of the IWEs gears could have ground and need to be replaced, What's worse, I've been told that those metal shavings could go into the wheel bearing and cause damage to them. Unfortunately, only way to know for sure is a visual inspection.

About 3000 miles. I didn't hear any grinding....just loudness. Nothing like the metal dragging noise the YouTube videos point out or people describe. I actually had the right hub replaced about 2500 miles ago due to a bent tire rod and they said the whole rod attached to the hub was worth replacing while they were at it. They probably gouged me. Next time I swap the tires I'll do the visual. I'm mechanically inclined with motorcycles so ill give it a whirl.

Default Can’t figure this one out

Now there is a roaring/ humming sound from 0 mph to about 40 and then it fades away the faster I go and it sounds like it is around the front drivers side a well so it has to be something that yours is doing as well?
did you ever find out how to fix this?

Default Same damn issue

Have not noticed any out of the norm noises or anything. (not even sure if the issue I am about to mention is related but figured I would mention it anyhow).

Anyways, I parked the truck for about 4 days. Today I got in the truck and I noticed that in 2 wheel drive at around 35 mph I start to hear a "hum" almost like the sound you would hear with an aggressive tire... This "humming" noise increases the faster I drive (it sounds like its at the front of the truck and MAYBE more so on the drivers side). There does not seem to be any vibrations in the steering wheel or lack in quality of steering, the sound does not appear to change on turns or when I shimmy the wheel back and forth driving down the road........just this noise).

NOW.....if I put it in 4x4....the humming noise goes away. everything sounds as normal. So I can guarantee it is not a tire noise, I highly doubt its wheel bearing noise. I am stumped on what the noise might be since everything was fine and then I parked the truck for a few days and all of a sudden this noise came about. Not like I was out hot ******* the truck or jumping ditches and exploded something in my diff or t-case or something.

Anyone had a similar issue with these trucks and/or know what the issue might me?
I have a 2013 Ford F150 FX4 V8 5 liter.... I'm currently experiencing the humming noise when in 2 wheel drive.... Put it in 4 wheel it goes away.... When backing out of the driveway I hear a pop or clunk sound.... The vibration and clunk sound are coming from the driver's driver's side front. I have a new wheel hub assembly And Half axle installed.

I am going to install a new lock hub actuator. Please tell me my symptoms will disappear I am losing my mind. I'm confident the hummy noise will disappear but will the popping noise while in reverse go away.

When I pull the air lines off both front tires while running in 2 wheel drive there seems to be The same amount of air pressure coming out of both lines so I don't believe its a solenoid, or valve issue.

Thoughts???? Sounds Sound you need a new hub lock actuator.

This is an interesting thread! My 2009 F150 only has 230,000 miles. I figured that it might be time to do a little more maintenance so I replaced both front hubs a few days ago (also replaced ALL of the brake components as it was time, again). Old hubs were in good shape and no real wear, grinding, etc. Anyway, after replacing the hubs I am not "suffering" the symptoms described here. Sounds like I'm running mudders in 2WD but the sound goes away in 4WD. Planning on replacing both IWE's and hope that's the fix! Will let you all know.
