Is the cam phaser ticking really a bad thing? Or is it just a noise that people are annoyed with and would pay $1500 to fix?

I believe I have this noise too but I WILL not pay that much to fix an annoying noise. Now if its going to tear my engine apart over time then I'll have to address that issue.

For me it's ticking and messes my timing up at low rpms. Some people also reported their fuel mileage went down and dome people had them come apart in the motors.

$1800 for phasers and solenoids isn't that bad, don't get me wrong it's bad, but could be worse... I was worried I'd have to dish out over $3000

I'm not sure how bad it really is, I've heard of people driving with them bad for 100K miles, others had them really mess up there engine. It's hard to tell...

I bought my 04 FX4 about 4 months ago and purchased the fidelity extended drive train warranty. A few days later i noticed it had cam phaser knock. I brought it in and the dealer had called fidelity and told me it takes about a month for it to kick in so the dealer told me to give it a few months or so since it doesnt harm anything. About a week ago I had enough of listening to it along with my warped exhaust manifold so I decided to bring it in. I brought it in on tuesday morning for the dealer to document it and call fidelity. I got a call from the dealer a few hours later saying that my drive train warranty would in fact pay for new cam phasers AND exhaust manifold. The only thing they wont cover is solenoids. Dealer said it will be about $160 for the solenoids so its not all bad

Default Cam phaser knock

I just had the time chain and cam phaser replaced by my ford dealer. I bought a warranty when I bought my used '05 F150 5.4 . I had 61k on it when I ought it. The noise started a while back. Had The work done at 93k. Just paid the $100 deductible . No trouble from my Ford service manager, just took the truck , call me and said what the issue was and handled it.

Think the Ford warranty would cover the replacement of the phasers?

Price from Motorcraft direct is 270 dollars for each phaser and 250 for the timing kit. So you know dang well Ford is making a killing off of this
