I am trying to install a rack on my 2004 (new style) supercrew - does anyone have the steps and or template for cutting out the pockets from the plastic bed covers - or can you recommend where I can go. May just go to the dealer - expect big $$$ if I do that, though....

 

If the bed caps are OEM then there are small squares located above where you would normally think the pockets are. No cutting or templates are needed. Simply grab one of your flathead screw drivers and find the squares that are in the bed rail cabs but look like they could easily be removed put the screwdriver into the long side of the square rather than the width and use the leverage from the screwdriver to simply pop out the two tabs holding the plastic square into the bed caps. i drilled a hole and then used a dremel with a router tip. came out perfect. if you look on the inside of your bed you can see where the pockets are.

 

Not all of the bed rail caps have this pre-cut out for the stakes. My 06 XLT didnt atleast.

 

Really? Thats my bad. Should've checked my 2010 to see if it had it too. I assumed because he had the same year as me but he didn't mention the package, just thought i'ld take a shot at it.

 

your right. mine didnt have the caps.

 

Found out that apparently the 6.5 has the caps that pop out like mine but the 5.5 foot bed just has the bed caps

 

the 5.5' bed on my 2010 doesn't have em either.
