Will a bad ignition coil keep your check engine light on all the time?
I just bought a used 2005 FX4 it ran great no issues and felt real strong. the check engine light was on and the guy told me it was from a ignition coil. I couldn't get it to skip or jump and i drove it for a good 15 miles. having two 5.4 3v prior to this one i have a good base knowledge of the motor but i have never had one stay on the whole time they always go off after i cut my truck off then come back on after it goes to skipping again. id like to know some more experienced peoples opinions on the issue. the cam phaser ticks pretty good so im thinking on adding the livernoise cam noise kit to keep the noise from happening again.
- any feed back on what all i would need to replace when i do a cam phaser job would be appreciated
-any feedback on the livernoise billet "block kit" to keep the noise from happening again would be appreciated

The check engine light is on to indicate a fault severe enough to store a code has occured. If you have a diagnostic code reader, connect it to the OBD-II connector (below the steering wheel/dash area) and obtain the code. If you don't have one, a good automotive parts store will read the codes for you, usually free of charge.
This code will indicate why the check engine light is on. Post the code here if you need additional help to fix the issue. Unplugging your battery for a few minutes will clear codes, but if the problem is still there, the code will re-appear and the check engine light will come back.
By the way, bold, large font is not needed (or allowed). Your post was edited.

Bright green on a white background doesn't really help either, btw

Depends on the code...the coil could be shorted open, shorted to ground just depends either of those will cause the light to stay on but if that was the case you would feel a miss I assume.

Alright I got the code read and it's a cam positioning sensor. How hard are they to change? Are they just plug and play or are they more involved? It's Bank one so I guess on the passengers side?

Is this the 5.4 also?
