I am having the opposite problem as you guys on my 04 5.4L because I have lots of power until about 3500 and above!! But I'm pretty sure my VCT solenoids are not working properly though because my gryphon is telling me they are full advanced at 1700 RPM and nothing after that!!
Good luck on finding it out!!

I have the EXACT same issue as the original poster. 04 5.4, just took it in for warranty cam phaser replacement, everything got replaced and I got a trans flush. Truck ran fine before I took it in. Never had this issue. As soon as I get it back this started happening and it is getting progressivly worse by the day.

Under light throttle the truck will move forward for a second and then I get this loud bogging noise or hum / vibration and the truck stops rolling forward and falls flat. If I roll off the gas and then back on, sometimes it will roll through it and sometimes it will do it again back to back. If I slam the gas, it will always power through it. I literally have to give my truck about half throttle everywhere I go to avoid this issue. If I drive lightly it starts happening instantly. Get on the gas hard and its gone. It does this on the streets and on the freeway now. It started with pulling away from a stop only. Now its everywhere I drive.

Took it back to ford and they had it for 2 days. They said they couldnt recreate the issue. I came in and drove it for them. Recreated the issue and also had the tech drive and feel for himself he recreated it about 7 times. He said it was a "slight" hesitation and doesn't seem too out of the normal and because I have a 6 inch llift and 35 inch tires it is impossible to diagnose. they said they can't do anything unless it throws a code or the over drive light flashes on and off. This is the most frustrating issue I've ever dealt with. The truck is extremely unenjoyable to drive now because I have to slam on the gas when in traffic to make it run right. Help please

You and I are in the SAME pissed off boat...still can't figure it out. I do have someone looking at it right now. He has checked the vacuum system, says it's fine. We are going to change the IWE solenoid anyways, someone had mentioned this prior in the thread and it's only $30. Next will be to replace the MAF, instead of just cleaning it. If that doesn't work, the COP's and then cat. converters..after that it'll find itself at the bottom of Lake Erie.

Tavman- Let me know if the VCT's fixes anything...I might add that to list of things to change before swim practice.

I had my vcts replaced with the cam phasers and my guides and tensioners so that's not the issue unless they got installed wrong? I'm going to watch this thread for a week and if no one can find a cure I'm taking it to ford again. If ford can't fix it I'm dumping this thing asap. I've spent 5k on this piece of s*** since last november. This is the worst vehicle I've ever purchased in my entire life. I've owned nothing but f150s in the past and I will never buy a ford again after this truck

I'll to post all the stuff that is going on with my truck as I find out...I hope it's something minor...but in your case after 5k if it is something minor it'd be enough to for me to sell it..who knows what else is going to go wrong?

Just had my friends dad who is a land rover tech take a look and hook up the snap on scanner. He said it looks like an issue with the throttle body, tps, iac, or just the throttle body itself. I also called ford and they too said it sounds like the throttle body is going out. Back to ford in a few days and we will see if they can fix it.

There were two things that were affecting my trucks performance with the loss of power and bogging down issue. First my e-brake had started to engage over time causing major problems of loss of power. I would have to punch the gas to get the thing to move. In traffic it was bad. The e-brake cam finally failed causing the e-brake to fully lock up. Had to have it towed. Fixed it for around 200.00 and runs great.
With the bog down issue it only happens every once in awhile under light acceleration. If I let off and on the gas it's fine. After reading other topics in the forum I think it's a gear ratio thing. I run 295/75/18. It only does it when the truck is fairly cold and only every once in awhile. Once I've been driving it for awhile it never does it. I'm considering upgrading to the 4.10 or 4.56 gears, but since it only does it every so often I can live with it.
I've had the same frustration a lot of other members have had, and over the last 4 to 5 months have put a lot of money into fixing the same problems. There are no guarantees with any vehicle that you're not going to have problems. I had a Lincoln LS that was a money pit, but still loved the car. Same with my F150. Even though I've had my share of headaches with it there's nothing out in the market that compares to the look and ride. Good Luck!
