Default Help rear end 05 Supercrew 2wd 5.4L

On the axle tag Im assuming this means 9.75 size 3.55 gear. Dont know if its a locker, limited slip or what?? The rear end is shuddering so I guess it needs a clutch pack. Beyond my ability to do it. Found a axle service in Tulsa that will since I couldnt find anyone in Muskogee to do it. I pull a camper and a bass boat but also wanted a little more giddy up from the stop light. I could use a ring and pinion suggestion and do the new gear with the clutch pack at same time. Mileage isnt that big of a deal anyway cause its gonna suck no matter what. Right now hwy is 14.7-15.0 at 80-85mph unless I keep it at 70 then I can get 17mpg not towing. I need to buy a new ring and pinion the mechanic will supply everything else. Will 4.10 give me what I want or 4.30 any help/advice appreciated.

Sometimes changing the rear end oil and adding Motorcraft friction modifier can get rid of that shudder if it is a LS rearend. It worked for my wifes Explorer.

Lucas I think. It was a small tube added the whole thing. Same oil in from factory. Only has 80K on it. But my teen recently revealed to me he used to street race it regularly against other friend's "Dad's" trucks.(he tells me this 5 years after he did it) So maybe that hastened the condition of the rearend.

H9 under Axel means you have an 8.8" Limited Slip rear end. Unless you just want to upgrade your rearend I would service the rear with new oil and a 4oz bottle of Motorcraft friction modifier. After you do both of those go to an empty parking lot and drive in about 30 figure 8s slowly and then wait a month to see if it gets better. Let me do some research to see which oil to use.

Looks like 75w-140. Before you add the new oil in add in the Motorcraft friction modifier first. I don't recommend using an oil that already contains FM but most people I've seen still recommend adding Motorcrafts FM. That's why I don't recommend one with it already in there if you're just going to have to add more.

Thanks I'll give that a shot and see if it kills the shudder. If that fixes the problem then it saves me the $500 I had set aside for this. I can live with the gears I got but really wanted to change them. Truck is stock except for CAI, Weapon X super cop, programmer and magnaflow exhaust.

I saw the door code and verified the 8.8 code but why would the rear end tag show 9.75?

Keep in mind Im no mechanic just kinda confused on that one.
