I put a 2008 nav radio from a mustang into my '04 lariat and had some similar issues. First thing is you have to buy gps antenna for the time to be correct. If you wish to use the navigation part you will also need a navigation CD. Depending on what your stock configuration was will depend on how you plug into the back of the unit. Regardless of what plugs in, it sounds like you will have to have the unit programmed to work in your truck.

When I put my nav radio in, everything powered on, speakers worked, but the steering wheel controls/auto dim/time didn't work. Go to the link above and check these guys out for sending in your radio to have it programmed for your exact truck. I know the ford dealerships usually can't do it (the one here had no idea what I was even talking about).
It was somewhere in price range of $100, but to me well worth it to have all those features work with my vehicle. You fill out the repair form and send it in. Usually they will call and double check what features to program to nav unit. I was asked if I had the factory subwoofer, audiophile system, ect. They have decent turnaround time and worked perfect after I got it back.
