I started noticing the same thing on my 04, and I believe it has to do with outside temperature. It's been about 6 degrees here when I leave in the morning, and any moisture you have on your lips or nose instantly freezes when you breathe in. I believe the same is happening with the truck's air intake, where it is just too cold. Any condensation freezes instantly on the air filter, and air passing through the now smaller passage has a high-pitch squeal.

I agree if it were a bearing after a few winters it would whine or fail completely. Mine is nice and quite all summer except for the Ford ticking. I notice my dipstick has the oil ring missing. I am going to give it a try and let everyone know if it works.

Default Squeal

I have had the alt squeal since my 05 was new. I know that sound very well. I am certain its the alt bearings. But, the squeal I have changes in pitch as if its a turbo. The noise is evident at idle sometimes, others while driving at a fixed rpm, even then it will ramp up, stop and start over, all while engine rpms remain steady. I have been able to narrow it to the left side of the motor intake area. AND, with the belt off. Its not related to the alternator, A/C, pulleys, or the belt. At $100 bucks for intake gaskets, that seem to test as good, I can't just replace them. I'll check the dipstick o-ring, but it sticks like heck to the tube, so I'm sure its ok.

Also watch your amp gague when the truck is making noise youll notice it will go to 3/4. My truck has done it for the better part of a year with no problems yet, but Ford says there is nothing wrong with it.
