I have an '06 4.6L with about 120k, and have not had any mechanical issues at all.

That's a 4.6!
The 5.4 as built is garbage for any performance. You shouldn't pay $56,000 for a truck to have the failures I have had. Mine failed at 40,000.
In regards to"sounds like you are just trying to promote your build, but also dissing it please don't do this
Do what? State that the truck's engine was built incorrectly for a supercharger and now I am building it correctly? That was the point of my build. this costs a lot of money! The motor has great potential. It can handle 1000HP with a stock block. Having said that it is not a reliable engine as is a 351Windsor or an old fashion 302. A 460 is also a stout engine. I have had them all as well as a Cleveland. This new breed of engine are complicated and difficult to work on

I bought an 05 Super Crew a few months ago. No regrets so far, despite getting the crap scared out of me reading the posts here about the spark plugs and cam phasers. In addition to specific things to a Ford truck people have mentioned, do a thorough inspection. A truck in this range is likely going to be due for a new battery soon ($120, mine died after 3 months), check the realistic life expectancy on the tires, since after springing for the new truck, you won't want to have to immediately drop $800-1600 for new tires, depending on what style you get. Check to see that all ***** and buttons work properly. I discovered after the fact that the passenger side front window button did not work. Not end of the world, it rolls up from the driver side. There are just lots of wear and tear items on 10 year old vehicles. If anything, finding any of these minor issues can help your negotiating position if they are not deal breakers. Good luck.

You need to calm down. We get it, your truck crapped out and you dumped a bunch of money in it, don't need to keep harping on it.

I must have to spell my point out. Because clearly it's not being made. In my opinion this is not a truck for a young guy without a lot of money. When things break they are expensive. If your young and have no money BUT possess great mechanical skill and have time you can fix it then it also be a good choice.
I honestly think that otherwise I would buy something that is cheaper to fix............

Yeah, that's what I said. I give it my recommendation because it's a good engine. Some people prefer reliablilty over power.

I recently came across this website that compiles survey information from new users about their cars service history. It's really good for checking and comparing vehicles reliability. I think it's fairly new, so not all models have a good set of data points. But since Ford trucks are very popular, then it should have plenty of useable information.

You guys sure are scaring the heck out of me. I just bought a 2008 King ranch with only 60k miles on it two weeks ago. Previous owner babied the truck and "Knock on wood" I cant find any issues with it. Love it so far. Reading this forum is terrifying though.
