Default Help with exhaust

I have a 5.4L 2004 Lariat and I'm looking to put an exhaust on it. I'm interested in just buying a muffler and putting it on rather than buying the whole system. Any suggestions as to what I should get or who I should get it from? Thanks

FYI, your pipes are 2.5".

What kind of sound are you looking for?

as GATORB8 asked, it all depends on the sound you're looking for. If your not sure of the sound, check out youtube and listen to the different exhausts for f150's to find one you like. Also if you use the search feature and look up "exhaust" you should be able to find several threads that people have offered their 2 cents on their favorite brands. I'm running a Flomaster 40, its louder than most but to me, thats how a truck should sound. its all personal preference.

Thanks for all the advice. I looked on youtube and listened to some of the different exhausts. To be perfectly honest, I think I like the 50 series flowmaster a little better than the 40. I guess I'm looking for a little bit more quiet sound. Is there any difference in performance in the 40 and 50 series? I also liked the Magnaflow and Borla.

Also, it was said that I have 2.5 inch pipes. I'm looking into just purchasing the muffler and having a local shop put it on. I'm pretty sure they make 2.5" in and 3" outs. Is 3" going out to big? I heard if you get to big it cuts your horsepower because there isn't enought back pressure.

My single exhaust is 3.5", no power loss here.
