Default Help, 5.4 3v Burning Oil, Here we go

Ok, so while I'm in the engine doing the phaser/guides/chains project in a few weeks, I am trying to fix another issue. I noticed that recently my truck has been burning oil like crazy, it used to not until recently, Its not in the exhaust, nor is it smoking on start. I have seen that the PCV can be a issue and is located in the driver side valve cover. Do you guys think replacing the valve cover since its a all in one deal will help fix the issue? Or can a bad heating element be causing these issues. I pulled the heating element out and it seems fine, who knows if it works tho, no dash lights. But could the valve cover be clogged up and causing the truck to burn oil? Like i am using 2-3 quarts in 2000 miles. No signs of leaks or anything else.

Also it's really hard to find another valve cover with a picture of the PCV in it. Usually just empty covers but half of them say PCV is built in. But are the Mustang 3v valve covers the same as ours?? It says truck but im not sure

Like this set http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-5-4L-3V-VALVE-COVERS-CYLINDER-HEAD-COVERS-TRUCK-MUSTANG-SEALS-BOLTS-Incl-/161441711152?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2596ad0430&vxp=mtr
I have engine code 4G-692-AA

I also am planning to do a new Oil pump while i am in there as well since i idle around 20psi hot with no ac, could be something in my screen

But am planning on getting new valve cover with pcv,
Melling High pressure 10340 Oil Pump, and entire cam phaser set.
Any other suggestions? Or am i on the right track here

Just checked out with the Hi pressure oil pump and my new FoMoCo timing chain, Tensioners, gaskets, Phaser kit. Amazon rules. Got 6 months to pay off that 500 dollar kit! That'll be easy

Obviously everything you're doing is oil related, but I'm not sure if any of that would cause your oil consumption problem. With everything you're putting on it should run like a new truck. Hopefully someone will chime in with better information on why you're burning oil. Maybe it is the pcv valve, but I'm not sure.

Yeah i just read that since i'm in there might as well do the pump as well. It's surely old and the Melling can handle up to 5500 rpm before it starts flexing and letting oil get past the seals. It's what jasper puts in their remans and its been making them last longer so ill give it a try as well. I don't like having to redo something i just fixed lol

Before you tear down the motor, do a compression test to see if you have some worn piston rings or a leaking head gasket. Faulty valve seats can also cause oil consumption.

Yeah i've kept my eye on things but i have never seen a single puff of smoke or anything from the tail pipe. Which is what put me on a new PCV path first to see if that solves it. But i doubt the heating element would cause that so ill just replace the valve cover to see if its gunked up. But while its apart ill look for loose rocker arms and all that dont worry lol

Also I have true duals. Both tips are pretty much clean. So it's easy to tell that one side isn't burning more than the other.
