Exclamation Help!!!

ok guys...well i have my 2004 F150 with 5.4 in it and about 76,000 miles on it....i keep on top of the maintenance and treat her good...lol...so anyway...with in the last month or so ive noticed an issue that has really freaked me out....so first i noticed that at a red light the idol seemed to jump around a little bit not much but from about 480-550 or so very slightly (as recorded on edge programmer) now what started happening then after is i would go from drive into reverse to park and the truck would stall out for no reason....this also started happening if i came to a stop at a light once and a while....RPM's would drop below like 450.....

PLEASE!!!! HELP!!!!!! i need to know what this may be thats causing this....how can i fix it? and is it something i can fix myself or should i take to a shop??

now just to make clear how many times this stall out has happen...so that you dont think it happens all the time.....it has maybe happen 3 or 4 times in the last couple months of everyday driving to and from work and out....so it hasnt happen alot in the slightest...also my edge programmer has not read any codes either...it did at one point and i cleared it and was fine but has still happen...i just forget what the code it read was.please help me if you can

thanks
mike

Hey Fizzy, any other symptoms? Noisy idle? Sudden loss of fuel economy? Recent oil change?
Mine started acting that way and I figured it was time for my plugs. After the plugs didn't fix it I ended up getting the cam phasers and rocker arms replaced (under warranty). Now it runs great. Mine was at 67K at the time. Hope your issue is something cheaper.

well fuel economy has never been so great... living in NYC doesnt help that though...lol....the idle has always had some noise to it....but researching it found that the 5.4 has a noisy idle...its not like a diesel but it has a minor tick sound to it...(prob the wrong word to use to describe it)...oil change needs to be done in about another 1,000 miles id say.....

im really hoping that its not the issue you said bc i am not under warranty still and that already sounds expensive...lol...

It almost sounds as though your torque convertor is staying locked when you come to a stop if the convertor does not unlock it will stall the engine
check your trans fluids color should be red. also having that code would possible be a big help.. good luck

I would check your IAC valve (idle air control) sounds like the symptoms that it might cause.

From your post, you have an Edge programmer....I'll assume you have a "tune" installed.

What happens to the idle when you go back to the stock tune setting?

I'd do this first before I change any/anymore parts. You may have a problem with the tune from the Edge programmer.

It would be an easy thing to rule out; and cheap to do. There have been several folks that have found that their truck runs poorly on a tune (or custome tune) they installed, and went and installed other parts in an attempt to fix the problem.

Try going back to the stock tune first to see if your idle is restored/corrected.

The IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) should be on the side of your throttle body. It's an actuator controlled valve that lets air past the throttle body butterfly when it is almost closed (at idle). I haven't looked at the one on this truck, but for my older Ford, I just cleaned the inside (air passage) with throttle body cleaner and a toothbrush. Make sure you don't get the actuator wet.

ok i will do that today and give it a day or so running on stock to see how it runs then....currently it is set on level 1 tune through the edge....so i will get back to you asap to see if that fixes it....before i go to the stealership or a shop to have it checked out....but if it is the tune from the edge...what would i be able to do with the edge to fix this issue?
