Removal is the simplest option. You wont get as good of a seal without it but from what I read it will still work just fine.

Haven't done mine yet, it works about 70% of the time right now. Don't know how difficult it would be to replace the foam. Lots of people complain about not being able to get their hands in the tight space to even get the foam out. I would imagine it would be even more difficult to put a piece of glue covered foam into place. I have big hands and know tight spaces you lose a lot of dexterity. Like I said don't know from experience but everything I've read says most people have a hard time just getting the foam out.
