Question Headlights-odd situation

Good Morning everyone. First time poster here, long time viewer lol. I have read thread after thread and found no one with my situation.

2 weeks ago my driver side high beam burned out. I bought this truck 1 year ago, and it had crappy headlights anyway. Cheap brand bulbs as I found out, I bought the sylvania H13 bulb for the driver side, and it’s dim when I plug it in, and when I turn on high beams the bulb is even dimmer. Here is where it gets weird.

i took the passenger side cheap brand bulb and put it in the driver side, it works fine, and I put the sylvania bulb on passenger side and it works fine.

My vehicle is a 2004 F150 Supercab 4.6L
So My question is, why does the cheap brand work fine in driver side but the sylvania bulb does not?

Could be a bad bulb. Did you buy a two pack or a single bulb? You should replace them in pairs.

I thought it was a bad bulb so I took it back and got a new one. Same result.....

im gonna buy a second one before work tomorrow. Maybe if they are the same sylvania bulbs on both sides it’ll work? We’ll find out. It’s just weird it works fine on the passenger side and not the driver side, but the cheapo bulb works fine on both sides.

Default Headlight issue

Sounds like a ground problem either in the lamp connector, or wiring harness. Track down which is ground, and re ground left side directly to battery negative. If lamp functions, there's your issue.

I think you're on to something. Makes sense.

Check grounds and ensure the connections that the bulb plugs into are clean with no green fuzzies

Alright guys, I finally bought a 2nd Sylvania bulb and put it in. They both work fine now! Who knew the bulbs had to match in order for them to work?
