Default Headers & Tune

In the market to get a little extra power from my 2006 F150 4.6. I'm curious to know what I can do as far as tunes, throttle bodies, exhaust, etc to get some extra ponies out of this 4.6 It's been a great truck, just looking for any advice on this. Any references to custom tunes and anything else. Thank you, your help is greatly appreciated.

The only thing worth doing in my experience is a tuner like the edge evolution.

I'm interested to see your replies. I'm also driving an '06 with the 4.6

I also had a 2wd '05 with 4.6 as my work truck when brand new and put a lot of miles on it for about 7 years.

I'm kind of resigned to the idea that the 4.6 never had any power and never will. My trucks moto is "everything is adequate"

Note: I'm really not ******* it. I love my '06 STX 4WD 4.6L F150 and adequate is exactly what I'm going for with this truck.

The 4.6 is a great motor. How much do you want to spend thats the key question. There are boosted 4.6s out there turning over 1000hp.

So the edge cts2 cost me 400. With that and a regear you are looking at 1500 to 2000 where I live. That alone will really liven your truck up and keep it stock and not risk a kaboom.

You can also look on ebay and search nationally on CL and buy a used Whipple 2.3. If you are lucky 1500-2000. Send it to Whipple for overhaul, another 2000. Coolers and pump 1000. Truck will rip but boost alone is a can of worms.

I found a 2007 with a ford race engine and a whipple 2.3 for 7500. Dynod 660. I pulled it and overhauled both. Deals are out there really depends how long u will keep it and what its for. Pm me happy to share my experience.

Gears are going to be your friend. 4.10s at least and stay away from bigger tires. The little 4.6L is going to need to turn some rpm to move the pickup at a pace you could call "quick". If you really want to make an improvement, source a 2v 5.4 or even do a lightning engine swap. As far as programmers go, I recommend SCT. It's what I use and it will be easier to find someone to write you tunes. Don't waste your time or money on shorty headers. They wont help enough to justify the money/headache. I think Stainless Works is the only company that makes longtubes for your pickup.
