As for ceramics and LTS I don't know much about the ceramics but usually the big difference is cold braking. Ceramics are known to be bad when cold, so you have to think about how much you really heat up your pads. Once very hot the ceramics are probably better, but if you're like me you don't really get your brakes that hot on normal driving. During towing it might be a different story, but like I said, you normally compromise cold braking.

What is a set of rotors run you? If you can, do the brake job yourself. It's one of the easiest DIY projects on a car/truck. After you've done it once you can easily do it within an hour the second time, and now you've learned something.

Remember to take care bedding the new brakes according to manufacturers specifications.

Good luck!
The reason I'm thinking about ceramics is because of the size/weight of my rim/tires. Plus the dust issue woudl be seriously cut down. The stock rotors are in good shape just need to be turned. For $120 for all labor and turning il let somone else get do it for me. NExt time when i change rotors and pad's ill probably do it myself.

I have Bendix Ceramics and they work well too. Just as a point of reference, I have a buddy that is a mechanic and he gets me parts at his cost. Two new High Quality rotors, Bendix Ceramic brakes and I put them on was $200.00 in parts.

dude you didnt see that investagation about budget brakes in the nashville area a few years ago on new channel 5? they showed where budgets brakes were telling people they needed stuff they didnt and then they would take short cuts. i will never go to budgets brakes around nashville myself. honestly i would just do it myself. brakes are so simple and theyre all disk should take more then 30 mins a corner.

Yeah I did see the report but i looked into the detaisl behind it. All the peo0ple doing the investigations were female and we all know how they are 99% of the time a sitting ducks for shops. The difference is i know i need new brakes and exactly what i need to get them fixed. i went and talked to the guy who was really cool and told him exactly what i wanted. Nothing extra sold, just said $120 for turning all the rotors which he said were still good, brake flush and bleed, and labor for the pads. I asked if i could watch the whole time so i could learn and he said sure. So the next time when i put on new rotors i'll do it myself.

Gottcha! But don't worry about your rim and tire weight. that's not really what you are stopping, it'll be the momentum of the weight of your truck. Like that speed + weight = momentum or whatever. You throw a buddy in the truck and you have already added more to the truck than the extra weight of the rim/tire (all depending on your buddys weight ).

As for dust I understand it's an issue for many people. My rims are gunmetal so I don't see it as much and I wash them often as well. On my street BMW for instance I got REALLY dusty pads, but they make up for it in brake feel in cold weather which I'd rather have, because that will save me and my family on the highway in case of a sudden stop.

Please post back how whatever pads you go for turns out to be.

You may be past this decision point,but.............

Your Ford dealer quoted you a price including machining/turning the rotors...... did they quote a price if the rotors are worn beyond turning??

It's been most (I think) member's experiance that the rotors are shot and need replacing.... some shops want CRAZY! prices for rotors.

I replaced al 4 brakes - pads and rotors - myself for less than $400 and the price of a 6-pack. it took about 2 hours..........

if you have some skills and a few tools, you can do it yourself.

As far as buying upgraded pads/rotors, that's up to you. They all install the same.

I didn't even go there with them. I had them checked out and was told at the dealership that they were still in good condition and could be turned one more time. But the next time im going to put new rotors on myself, Cross drilled and slotted.

Nash, just incase the un-turnable issue does comes up: The spec from the service manual for the front discs is 28.5mm(1.12in) minimum operating, and 29.1mm(1.14in) minimum to turn
