Engine still running good, lost a transmission at 85k

, i replaced all sparkplugs 110$and cleaned massairflow senzor changed cam senzor bank 1 had same problem then i read its probably phasers damaged i unplugs both vct selenoids it was little better but still was shaking and bad idle so i changed both vct selenoids $125 old ones looked really bad and i changed oil 5w 20 50$ and oil filter after i did that truck runs great passed 40 miles allready no checkengine light or bad ide so i would suggest changing vct selenoid and oilchange before you spend allot money hope it helps someone
I just have a question on the issues you were having as I have the p0012 code as well on a '04 f150 with the 5.4 V8. Mine only idles rough occasionally and then once giving a little gas goes away. I'm wondering if you had a similar experience with yours. I'm just trying not to replace everything

That guy posted once in late 2017 and disappeared. So, don’t bet on a response.

If I was a betting guy, you’ve got a leaking timing chain tensioner, but not totally destroyed so that it still can hold enough oil pressure to tighten up the chain when you goose the pedal. So, you’re getting tight on time here to fix this without too much damage.
