Good Exhaust without drone?!?

Hey guys I'm new to thee forum but I recently bought a 07 150 xl 4.6 ext cab 6.5ft bed. so I want to get an exhaust that you can tell its a v8 and has a nice rumble to it, but is drone free because i take long trips on the highway and have young siblings. So I have a used magnaflow double offset 2.5in 14in muffler sitting in my garage, would this fit the bill or be to loud? If not I'm also looking at getting a flowmaster 50 series but not sure which would better suit my needs. I've done a lot of youtube digging and havnt really found any quality videos of either from inside the cab and outside. I dont care to much for performance as this is just a daily driver more about having a good sound outside and nice and quiet inside. once I choose a muffler I have my own welder and 2.5in exhaust tube, I'm looking just to put in a muffler and save the rest of the stock exhaust. do i want an offset in offset out or center in offset out or what, to fit in place of the stock one? hope you guys can shed some light on this for me thanks!

Try the 14." You already have it. If it's too loud, go with the series 50.

I just switched from a flowmaster to a magnaflow. Sounds much better on the throttle and much less drone.

I've had both Borla pro xs and a Borla atak muffler with no drone. They sound incredible outside of the cab but on the inside it's pleasant

This helps how ? what series Flowmaster did you switch from ?

I have the Magnaflow 16518 catback. Sounds great when you get on it, but not obnoxious.

We offer the Thunderstorm catback which is little to no drone depending on the downpipes that that you go with. Right now we are offering FREE SHIPPING on our exhaust systems that are in stock. Drop us a PM or give us a call at 313-561-5500 and we can help you select the best exhaust for your truck.

Agreed. This was an easy choice for me.

I have a Flowmaster Delta 50 -- love love love it. It exits behind the rear wheel. There's no drone. When you're on the throttle it sounds like a V8 and you know it, but otherwise, great.

Big fan of MBRP myself.

Let me brake it down Barney style for you. He has a magnaflow 14" muffler that he is considering vs a flowmaster. I just switched from flowmaster super 44 or 50, came with truck, to a magnaflow 14" and I like it much better. Understand now?

The Borla atak is a lot louder!! It's also deeper and throatier. I believe it's center in and out. The atak has been my favorite out of all the systems I've heard

Nope.. still don't know which muffler you switched from .. was it a 44 or 50 and what p/n 14" magnaflow did you go with ? All you stated was you switched brands.

Usually a center in/center out muffler is used, but you can make the offset unit fit with some minor tweaks!

SCORGE 11-18-2016 02:13 PM

I used two thrush mufflers....stacked side-by-side.
Nice low bumble....not a lot of drone...and nasty sounding when I get on it

does the 3" system affect your engine performance much? I've read that sticking with a 2.5" is better.

So i went ahead and installed the 14in magnaflow onto my truck and i love the sound if i could do it over i probably would buy a 18in long or a bigger case like a 5x8 instead of a 4x9 because its a little loud

I can vouch for the 18" 5x8 Magnaflow... obviously it's subjective but it's perfect for this 30 year old father of 2. The acceleration rumble says "I'm still a guy" but the lack of drone once up to speed says "I'm an adult"
