The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Good - Tons of information and people willing to help.
Bad - Seeing all the bad things that happen to your vehicle.
Ugly - Waiting for it to happen.......
I guess I should have read the forums before buying the truck but I got a 2004 XLT Screw with 46K miles from an old lady I knew didn't tow anything or abuse it. I thought to myself, this truck is perfect! It will last me forever (hopefully my son could have it in 8 years when he turns 16). Now all these people write posts asking if they should buy this 04-05 truck and posters say...No. Get something after 06 and it would be best to get an 09 or later. I swear I'm wondering if I should get rid of mine while I know I can get what I paid for it before I have to dumb tons of money into it. I have the diesel sound now so I know a timing replacement is in my future. I just want something dependable that I know with "regular" maintenance, would last me a long time. I had a 2002 Sequoia a few years ago and I still regret selling that. It was the most dependable vehicle I ever had. Of course I also had a 1999 F250 hunting truck with 232K on it before the motor blew. Sorry for the rant this morning....

Go on any forum and read about the issues every make/ model has you will never buy anything. Just drive the truck and fix any issue as it happens. No sense sitting and worrying about stuff that hasnt happened yet. Rest assured that there are several hundred thousand of these trucks on the road at any given time and if they were junk like some will try and lead you on to be know body would buy them.

^^ Agreed. Calm down and enjoy your low mileage find. Lots of posters come and complain. Lots also help each other with repairs and preventative maintenance tips. Lots of trucks make it to 300K with normal use and servicing. I expect mine to.

Love my 05 Lariat Screw. Very dependable and has only had a few minor problems like COPs and plugs, but plugs are more of a maintenance thing. I'm about to roll 170,000 mi still running strong

Still racking up the miles on my '04 screw with 232000 miles. Yeah it sounds like a diesel but it runs strong and tow my camper where ever I want to go and looks good doing it. No regrets!

That's another question about the diesel sound. Some people never fix it and it runs fine. Others change the timing parts when they start to hear it. Some people say it won't hurt anything it's just annoying, others say it will ruin your engine... I wish I knew because I don't care how it sounds if I know my engine isn't going to go. Just sucks I hear it with 48K miles on the truck....

08 screw just over 62k miles. Whole timing replacement cam phasers crank shaft sensor and all new vcts. The year doesn't matter my truck needed an over haul mechanically. It was under extended warranty that I bought for these reasons
